Happy November!
I’m writing this update as Davd and I are driving home from an excursion to New Mexico and Colorado chasing Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS and the northern lunastice moon. Like most trips, there were great parts and disappointments alike. After all the rain, there was so much moisture in the air and many cameras frosted over during our long nighttime shots, so that was frustrating. However, the weather was clear the whole time and we had beautiful skies to see that gorgeous comet. I hope you all got a glimpse of it too.
Whether you saw it or not, we hope that you enjoy this video we’ve put together about comets in general and Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS in particular.
In lunar news, I’ve sent the 2025 moonthly calendar to the printer and am waiting with bated breath for the first proof! If you’re interested in a copy and in supporting our endeavors, you can buy them on our website: retrogrademotionpictures.com. Please put your order in as soon as you’re able; it really helps us know how many to print. We’ll definitely be printing more than last year as once people saw them, many wanted to get a few more to gift to others.
In the upcoming calendar, I’ve included a few more astronomical doings that I wished for this year, namely information about Mercury and Venus elongations (when they’re most visible in the sky), and specific times for the moon’s monthly standstills (when it’s farthest north and south).
I’m really excited about Davd’s beautiful photography in this year’s calendar. We’ve included shots of the recent comet, Scottish stone circles, and of course other sites near and far that we’ve visited and documented over our many years of chasing astronomy.
New moon,
The Valentines
