I have always loved lunar<\/span> calendars<\/span> ever since a family friend gifted one to my dad when I was a kid.\u00a0 They are so beautiful and fun to look at and discover more about the moonthly cycle.\u00a0 However, I noticed that I never actually use <\/i>the lunar<\/span> calendar<\/span> to make plans or schedules.\u00a0 I realized that the straight lunar<\/span> calendar<\/span> didn’t take into consideration enough aspects of the Gregorian calendar<\/span> that our lives and work schedules revolve around to be as useful as they could be.\u00a0 In pondering this, I came up with a calendar<\/span> design that, for me, remedies this problem.<\/div>\n

As you can see in the sample calendar<\/span> page, each “moonth” starts the day after new moon<\/span>, waxing to first quarter, then full moon<\/span>, then waning to third quarter and finally ending with the new moon<\/span>.\u00a0 Turn the page and you start the next moonth.\u00a0 So that’s the primary way the calendar<\/span> is structured–the basic synodic cycle of the moon<\/span>.<\/div>\n

Days of the week are such an important part of the Gregorian calendar<\/span>, so in my calendar<\/span>, I’ve retained this detail and color coded the weekends.\u00a0 The lighter boxes are Saturday and Sunday.\u00a0 From there, it’s quite easy to understand that the first box after a light box is Monday (marked M), the third one is Wednesday (marked W), and so forth.<\/div>\n

Each moonth features a spectacular photograph from around the world (especially the American southwest), highlighting celestial events and other cultural phenomena.\u00a0 Much time and care has been put into being in the right place at the right time to capture unique observing locations at the specific times they were designed for.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
